WEDIOMBO BEACH
Wediombo is located in the Jepitu village, Girisubo, Gunungkidul. Wediombo, in Javanese means “wedi” is "sand" and “Ombo” is "wide ". However, actualy Wediombo beach don’t have the vast expanse of sand. The west and east coastal area are flanked by cliffs. White sand is on the outskirts decorated with shells. The water is so clear and blue that make every foreign tourist is interested to enjoy it. This beach is located on land which is very lower than the plain which is serounding it. Several dozen stairs must be passed to
reach the beach.
On the right and left of the stairs that we can see the panorama of green rice fields, stalls selling food, farmers and fishermans who drove around the coast. At the east end of the beach next to the cottage there are citizens, they are fisherman.
We can buy and enjoy a typical fish from shore Wediombo name " Panjo " . Panjo has length roughly equivalent to the long arm of an adult. This fish has two types of “gilig” ( cylinder ) and “gepeng” ( flat ) but the two types of fish cannot be found at the same time when they have a different season . In the coastal area of beach there are also a lot of rocks that big and slick , but very interesting for tourists to take pictures . Mangrove trees planted along the edge of the beach. The panoramic of sunset in the evening is also very nice, there are many tourists who take the vacation to see the panorama in the evening . At a certain moment the tourists can also watch the show " Ngalangi " which is held by local people. This ceremony is conducted once a year. The goal of this activity is to express gratitude to God for the grace that has been given and asked the fortune to catch a lot of fortune such as harvest for the farmers and fish for the fisherman which is met day by day.
